From our Acting Principal
The leadership, teaching and educational support staff at Gisborne Primary School offer high level expertise in providing quality educational outcomes to all of our students. This is done in a calm, supportive environment. Our learning community is guided by our school motto, ‘caring,’ and we pride ourselves on our culture of wellbeing and our continuous endeavour for excellence.
The teachers work in year level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and strive to continually improve their practice to support the emotional and academic growth of all students. Our teachers plan together in teams and use data to inform the direction of teaching. Our school is well known for its excellence in teaching and learning. We are a PLC Link school and are visited by other schools from across the state who come to observe our planning and teaching practices.
We have highly effective wellbeing approaches and intervention program across the school. Every class has weekly Social and Emotional (SEL) lessons to support students to be resilient, persistent and to manage their emotions, to have high aspirations and to be responsible for their learning and behaviours. Gisborne Primary School follows the Disability Inclusion approach to support students with additional needs. Staff implement adjustments to meet the needs of students in the classroom.
We promote a positive home-school partnership as this strongly benefits the education and wellbeing of your children.
We look forward to meeting you and working closely with families who become a part of the Gisborne Primary School community.
Kind regards,
Lisa Maxwell

Our school has year level classes which recognise the role of peer support for emotional development, academic learning and modelling. The teaching approach in our school is focused on the individuals, their abilities, responsibilities and providing our children with a happy, safe and secure learning environment. Our teachers differentiate the curriculum to suit the learning needs of students. Quality planning and assessment practices are considered high priority at our school.
Students at Gisborne Primary School are encouraged to share their 'voice' through the many leadership opportunities offered. Our School Captains lead school events and assemblies and represent the school at community events such as Anzac Day. Other leadership initiatives include Peer Support, Initiative Leaders, House Captains and each classroom is led by two Class Captains.
Our specialist programs include Physical Education, STEM (Science, Technology Engineering & Maths) , The Arts (Music and Art) and LOTE (Italian) .
The focus of Professional Development for our staff has resulted in a heightened awareness of the best current teaching practices. All staff are expected to participate in professional learning. A large component of the professional development is the Professional Learning Teams which focus on refinements in teaching, goal setting and collegiate support. The Leadership Team visits classrooms regularly and staff are offered the opportunity to participate in collegiate visits and learning walks.
Our School Council sets high expectations for student learning and teaching practices. Our parents are shared partners in student learning; we value their input and encourage them to contribute through both formal and informal avenues.
The school's motto is 'Caring' and this is featured as a logo on the school's uniform.
The school's philosophy is based on the belief that every student has the ability to learn and that this occurs best in a safe, happy and positive environment.
